Bicycles, Cycling, Cars, and Safety

This will be a little of a spin off than the usual comic stuff, but it's just something I'd like to write about~

as some of you might know, I've recently picked up Cycling again, stopped doing it ever my old bike in the high school days never actually tried to pick it up again...

(also due to the fact that it's not really a healthy lifestyle to spend my youth just working and playing PS3 and just drawing)

either way it was a good decision, I begun to really love the feeling of cycling all over again, along with joining different groups and cycling all over the place, meeting new friends and listening to them talking about bicycles though I have absolutely no idea what they are talking about...

but one thing I've noticed was that there is recently a rise in the number of Cyclist in Malaysia, thus it's beginning to be a common thing to see bicycles on the roads right now.. which is understandable due to the fact of the rising petrol prices, and also to avoid the massive jams.

SHARE THE ROAD

and sadly, I do know that KL roads was never built for Bicycles to have their own lanes on the main road like other countries (Japan / China / Taiwan/ etc) thus it is also not really a safe thing for bicycles to be on the road, even though people are now starting to fight to "bicycle rights" and to want to "share the roads" with them cars, I think that is a good option to have~

but sadly I'm starting to notice a conflict on both man-powered, and motor-powered vehicle on the road now... where the cars are being very aggressive and almost running over some cyclist, at best just tripping a few of them off balance, or maybe even making an offensive comment and gesture as they pass by.. but is it totally the car's fault? Well probably in some areas... but we can't say that it's totally their fault, since I too have seen a number of cyclist that treated the road as their grandfather's property, cycling in the middle of the right lane, purposely stopping in the middle of the road and raising their hands to stop traffic for no other reason (even motorbikes don't do that) or even too, making some gestures and comments towards the other motored vehicles. I mean if I was in the car, I too would want to run them over..

But in the end I think we all need to come to a point where we need to have mutual respect towards each other on the road, since we all do have a common goal, to use the road to get us from point A to B

For the Bicycles: do play close attention to traffic, a priority of the lane should be given to the motored vehicles first, so do keep to the close left of the lane that they might the room to pass. Follow the rules of the road too as a car would (signals when turning, and stopping at the red light). And remember, no matter how expensive and solid your bicycle might be, a car can easily destroy both your bike and ego with just a light tap on his accelerator. Cycle the way as you would want other cyclist to do when you are driving.

For the Cars: realizing the power that you are holding in your hands, do also be alert and notice the little details on the road, it might not always be a bike, but rather a lamppost or even a hamster. You don't always have to speed or horn loudly to prove your point, since it sounds x5000 times louder to the cyclist, and it might scare them to throw them off balance (especially if they are nervous new-comers) Drive the way as you would want to see other driver acting on the road.
Now that that's over with, I would like to talk of the importance of safety when cycling...

"HUH!? Is there a need for that!?"

as you might ask... but yes there are a couple of things that we need to take notice of if you would like to come back home and live to die another day...

and yes I am talking about the Bicycle Helmet... I know that not many of us would want to wear it due to many reasons, but one main thing would be as a fashion statement, since a bike helmet does mess with your hair and the wind flowing through it..

(then again all those TIGHT clothing does make a strong fashion statement by itself)

and I too would be anti-helmet due to how uncomfortable it is, but just as long as we are on the road, accidents could happen, that's why I can't stress enough on how important the need is to keep a bicycle helmet on when you're riding!!
it might not be much, and you might still get a couple of cuts and bruises when you fall, (believe me it hurts real bad) but it's more important to keep your head safe from the worse case scenario

because the road can be unforgiving and brutal at times, that's why we call it an "Accident" because nobody can predict what would happen next to them, or someone else.
I've read and heard on a couple of stories on accidents on the road, and a majority of much critical cases were all unexpected moments, especially to the individual that decides to not wear a helmet.. and really, it doesn't matter how skillful and experienced you might be, we all need to keep our helmet on, because... well, safety first

it might take just one accident to really change our lives, and I mean just "one"

... either way as we're still living on the earth, and as long as humans aren't replaced by hamsters yet, let's learn to live in peace with one another, by beginning to respect each other through a mutual agreement, beginning on the road~

cycle safe :)
then again I've always wondered, how would it be like if you were to run over your friend...?

Comic Fiesta 2013

Firstly, a very Happy 2014 to everyone!! And it also reminds me of how long it was since I've blogged about anything XD

Either way, today I shall be blogging about my visit to Comic Fiesta 2013, in which I think most of you might be familiar with, and most of you might actually know much more about it than I do... O.o

(picture by http://patriciachan.com/ because I was too lazy to photograph my own pass)

well so to say, one of the few reasons why I would go to these events, knowing that they'd be a huge amount of people and that I might have to line up under the hot sun for hours, etc would be because of being blessed with a Media Pass that, in which it was a Photographer pass at first in my previous years, but then was changed to Blogger as the years went by... not sure why, but it works the same :)

On my first day there isn't much to talk about because I forgot to bring my camera, and I was late at the event because of work  and practices that I had to attend, so we shall jump straight to Day 2

Day 2, in which I was also late, but this time it was much more serious because I reached there are nearly 5:00pm in the evening.. in which I was kinda worried whether they'd be any chance that I could even cover anything in this event.. but here goes~~
upon arrival, this was the first thing that instantly caught my eye!!
It's really an amazing Gundam cosplay, and you could see the Cos-lings were rather excited to see it too... but upon a close inspection, I've noticed that there was some "UHU GLUE" Logo's inside... well if it works~~ XD
the hall? Well this year's hall was MASSIVE!! in which I mean it felt like x3 the size of how it was in the previous year.. did they rent another few extra halls? I believe they did... unless I forgot all about it... nonetheless, this is the Artist booth section, which is also my favorite spot, knowing that it'll suck off all my money and yet I still went there.... whew..
wasn't long till I bumped into a cosplay of a character from MineCraft... this was really well done, though most of the others might debate a little on his legs... wahaha
we then found a nice section for everyone to have their pictures taken

gosh you look nice, and expensive
you shall not see this~ :)

honestly I have to admit, that I did not take alot of the cosplayers this year... wasn't just because I was late, probably cause I was looking in all the wrong places... =.=

If you can't beat them Gym Leaders... I guess you could end up buying your own badge??
Cos: "Would you like a badge, or me?"
it's amazing of how much selection of badges they had... but after buying a few, I kinda wondered what am I supposed to do with them... :/
not sure what this was about... but it was kinda scary though...
upon posing for a shot, it wasn't long till the Titan sprained his back... that was a real interesting thing to see...
The League of Legends Grand Finals was worth checking out too though, especially at the near ending when they called a couple of people out to compete for free prizes
but when I looked at the little girl that went up.... an immediate response was

"she sure win liao loh"

want attention? A Rikakuma suit with some dancing skills would do the trick~

of course after about an hour or two... it was near closing time where the shops were already packing up, and I've noticed that I've barely even photographed much things this year... sigh...

I guess I'll do a better job in 2014..
either way, this was the stuff I've bought from this year's CF, though not all of them are mine though... some are bought for a friend...

though I'm still feeling a little regret of not being able to cover much of CF2013, but... I guess this little comic would describe most of it~~
see you all again in CF 2014 :)

World of Cos - Official T-Shirt

it's finally here....

yes indeed, after a long time of procrastinating, a long time of waiting and saving of money, I have finally made it!!
which is the first ever edition of our World of Cos T-Shirts!!

why T-shirts?? Not sure... probably cause I'm a Tee fan I guess... always like to wear tees with interesting drawings on them, especially since some friends have asked me to get Cos on a Tee, so I went on with the idea

But since it's a first edition, so there's quite limited sets though....
I'd say it's a good learning curve for me too, in working out on the payment and shipment stuff... it is an interesting experience though~~

a big thanks too for those who have been supporting us thus far, and even to the point of purchasing a tee from us, I really appreciate it, and yes I will still be continuing to make more tees in the future!! (when I save up my money first though)

if you'd like a World of Cos tee, you can just drop me a message at: www.facebook.com/worldofcos
and here's a picture of me wearing it~ where's the face? I shy la... maybe when we reach 100K LIKES then I'd consider XD

One of Those Nights

I'm having one of those nights, where I'm just siting in my room, and I'm not sure what is it I can or should do....

should I go out and have a night cycle with my bicycle?
should I actually do some work?
should I go out shopping?
should I ask a friend out for a drink?
should I play my ps3?
should I draw?
should I spend meaningless time online?

not too sure.... but here I am blogging, and I know I have NOT been blogging at all, probably should start scheduling myself to do it, I don't know... still more active on the facebook page than this~

oh well... :D

Paint Tool SAI

Have you heard of Paint Tool SAI before?

If you haven't and if you're looking into a good program to begin drawing, I think that this would be an interesting program to look into!!

Some have been asking me what program I used for drawing Cos and the Cos-lings, well all along I've been using Adobe Photoshop... why?? Not really sure, but probably cause I've been using Photoshop for a long time in editing my photography pictures that I'm just very used to the hotkeys and interface of it... familiar ground :)

But then I always felt a limitation in drawing, that the drawing lines never felt smooth, always kinda looked like a crocodile teeth while I was drawing, or felt like I was on drugs and had a constant shaking of my arm... ngehh.... OR probably cause I didn't know there might have been other nicer features and brushes on Photoshop... probably just my own fault..

but then, I've seen a lot of other comic bloggers using the program "Paint Tool SAI" so I decided to give it a try... firstly? I wasn't familiar with it, so I stopped trying after a very short while, till I decided to try it again...
and oh gosh... I've never realized how smooth the lines were in this program, and how nice were the other stuff like Crayon, Airbrush, etc... I instantly fell in love with it!!! Now I'm really curious why I didn't notice this before when I tried it out...

But then again it ain't easy changing programs just like that, because all your templates and stuff are in Photoshop format... so it had to be another learning curve all over again for a new program!!
just for the fun of it, I gave it an hour of random trying out the brushes and colors, and I have no idea what happened, but this picture came out.... a re-make of Furi, version 2.0... but then again I think I'll stick back to the normal Furi.. this one takes too much time to draw XD

there's so much more stuff about Paint Too SAI that I can talk about, but let me get a little more familiar with the program, then I'll let you guys know how it goes!!

But hey, don't worry if you're coming from a Adobe Photoshop line, cause I've found out that you can tune the hotkeys on SAI to your own personal preference, and you can also save your drawings in a .psd (photoshop format) and continue your work on Photoshop after you're done with SAI, and most importantly, they do keep the Layers too!! :)

Paint Tool SAI, surely a program worth checking out~~ there's still much more to explore for me ~~ but of course it's a paid program so.. *cough*
but if you don't wanna use your precious money on a program, well here's another program worth checking out, kinda similar to Paint Tool SAI, but I haven't given the time to fully check out the features though... this program was introduced to me by Mrs. Bulat, and I think she uses this program?? She does some real awesome drawings though, check her out too!!

http://imbulat.blogspot.com/

so what's your favorite drawing program?? :)

World of Cos - ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!

if there's a reason to celebrate, it's because we've turned one years old ~!! :D
first I'd like to start off with a big thank you to all the wonderful supporters that have been supporting us in the World of Cos, with your encouraging words and LIKES on facebook that have inspired me to do more, and yes, it is something worth celebrating about =]
though the design of Cos was around ever since 2004, but it only became official when I launched the Facebook Page last year on July 13th 2012... been holding back from starting one mainly because of personal doubts if it'll ever attract any audience, or would it even be great compared to the other awesome comics that are out there, but I just tried it out for the fun of it, and never regretted that decision today :)

it's been a great one year, let's go through a little walk of memory lane~ so do join us down this interesting path XD
I think it's been the dream of a lot of kids and young people to wanna be mainly a "Comic Artist" due to the fact that a majority of us are heavily influenced by Anime/Manga, I too was a little crazy about it during my teens, that I used up most of my savings (yes I'm a bad saver) on "How to Draw Manga" Books... and man books are NOT cheap...
Drawing was one of my favorite hobbies and past-times to do then, as I would spend days on a single artwork, sometimes even going to the extreme till my parents had to confiscate my drawing papers and pencils...

and as I grew older, drawing seemed to have slowly faded out of my life as I went on to college.
I started drawing Cos as a side character just out of boredom during classes both during highschool and college, just a little black figure without a face, but just a mouth... but ended up scrapping that design because coloring him took TOO much black ink off my pens...
jumping ahead of time, Cos ended up turning into a yellow colored character because that was how I imagined him to look like, and I thought that that would be a suitable color for a little simple character...
I have a little notepad that I always have with me, where I'd doodle and draw different types of Cos on it, and later on developing the idea to have a character that loves doing Cosplay and dressing up as different characters, thus the name "Cos" was given to him...

but it wasn't long till a good friend of mine decided to make me a bunch of little cupclays (cup cakes made with clays, non-eatable) and she visualized a white color Cos and said that it looked MUCH nicer then...

yeap, she was one of those people who told me that she'd visualized that Cos could go far... even though I just thought of him as a classroom pass time boredom.
but just to cut the story short, Cos went through a lot of changes in the year, from color to sizes to a lot of shrinking and fattening, but that made the Cos of today!! =3

Life was a little different when one day my dad blessed me with a Wacom Bamboo
In simple terms, this is the device that fulfills the dreams of a lot of children in the world...

and that got me excited, but after not drawing some serious artwork for years, I could barely remember how to do it, and started to just draw a little Cos instead.
17/06/2012 was the first day I published the first World of Cos comic on my own facebook, in which looking back, the artwork is horrible then... I blame myself for not being familiar with the drawing tablet...

as bad as I thought it was, a couple of friends and families thought it was interesting, and I started to do a little more...
eventually it became a new-found-hobby for me that I decided on adding a couple new characters, and even starting our very own Facebook Page, World of Cos

how did the name World of Cos come about?
well I have to say my all time favorite comic was Dr. Slump by Akira Toriyama, in which he created his own world with a LOT of characters, and it was really a great comic in it's own special world, and that was one of my greatest inspirations for the World of Cos till today!!
as time went on I started getting used to the drawing pad (just a little) and I could see how the comics were slowly improving, along with some LIKES on the Page, not much, but better than none =]
eventually the page hit 50 LIKES, that made me dance in great celebration!!!
eventually it reached 700, and today, we have 900+ LIKES on our Page~ and man is this a great inspiration, but it wasn't enough as I still do wanna improve myself daily to get much better in both artworks and comics!!

it wasn't long till Nuffnang had one special event, a meetup for Comic Bloggers, and I was excited as I saw that, and submitted this comic for it
surprisingly I got the invite!!
and for a moment you felt so awesome being together in the ranks of awesome and talented people altogether, also learning for famous comic bloggers like Bro, Don't Like That Bro & CheeChingy, it made the experience even greater !!
here's the group shot, and I can only say that I am inside... that is all XD

At the moment, I started being a little, overambitious and begun doing a lot of nonsense.... what are they??
I've started expanding the family of Cos, and calling them the Cos-lings, yeap, more characters are still on the way...
eventually I got a little syok and just went to print out a World of Cos tee just for the fun of it (it was really expensive)

I spent weeks locking myself up in my room, finishing this Full Christmas Special Manga JUST in time for Christmas... in which I told myself next time, I'll do it on my own pace...

I got some little World of Cos stuff made both by friends and by my own wallet, in which some people are saying they wanna rob me for these... please don't?
I've ended up designing our own little World of Cos book....
which turned out quite impressive as I would say XD

But if you'd ask me what was the biggest highlight of the year 2013?? I'd say it was almost winning a prize =3

there was this WWWOW Awards by DIGI in which the top web page will be awarded, and my friend encouraged me to join, so for the fun of it I did try...

but I totally forgot about it, wasn't even going around asking votes, till I checked it back one day
and to my shock, World of Cos was in the Top 50 list O.O
it wasn't long till a friend who was working in DIGI sent me this message on Facebook, which is a really big wow thing for me...

well of course we didn't win the award this year, but knowing that we made it into the top 50's is already a great encouragement for me, never would I think that the World of Cos could make it this far today :)
but hey, here's a FB Cover picture of a collage of the drawings from the World of Cos!!
and our latest comic... surely a big improvement compared to our first comic huh? :)
either way, it's been a challenging first year for us, lots of fun and hard work at the same time, but I've enjoyed every moment of the way, in every random drawings, in every little comic, I still hope to improve and get better~
we'd never know how the World of Cos would turn out in another year, but we do hope that the rest of you would continue to support us even more, and I promise that we'd continue to improve and do our best for you guys too !! :)

a BIG THANK YOU to you all who've supported, and also stayed long enough with us till today :)

Give us some love and LIKE us at : www.facebook.com/worldofcos
